The Entente Cordiale is alive and well between lawyers from the UK and notaires in France. They have met in the Dordogne to discuss the purchase process, including the possibility of sterling transactions where both the buyers and sellers are British Here is a report of the meeting by one of the participants Matthew Cameron of UK lawyers Prettys.

Solicitors and Notaires have been working together for many years in the interest of their British clientele buying property in France. The intention, naturally enough, has been to ensure that the clients are better informed as to the procedures involved in a transaction, and that estate planning matters are addressed in a manner suitable both in France and England.

With this in mind, a group of English solicitors met with the Chambre de Notaires de Dordogne in early October 2007 in the amenable surroundings of the Chateau des Vigiers Club at Monestier.

The conference was organized by the president of the Chamber of Notaires of Dordogne, in conjunction with the Law Society and Matthew Cameron, a partner at Prettys Solicitors in Ipswich, who co-coordinated the British involvement.

Opening the meeting, Mr Cameron said that some of the solicitors had been involved in previous cross-border conferences, notably between the Law Society and the Paris Chamber of Notaires. They were already excited about taking part in this event, especially given that it was taking place in the Dordogne
